History

In 1968, several ladies in the Beaver Creek area decided to meet on a regular basis to get to know each other and to extend an open invitation to ladies, as they moved in the community, to join them.  In time, this group became a chapter of the Yavapai County Homemakers Association.

In 1976, the Chapter withdrew from the association, as they wanted to expand their interest and formed their own club and named it Lake Montezuma Women’s Civic Club.

Within the Club, was a History Committee. Their dedication to the project of putting in print the history of our area produced the 1989 LMWCC Copyrighted book, “By the Banks of Beaver Creek”.  It was a three-year project encompassing personal interviews, review of resource materials and related stories of the past.  It is not a documentary; it is mostly oral history.  The second printing of this book was in 2000 and all the monies received from the book sales were donated to the Montezuma/Rimrock Fire Department.

The LMWCC is active in the community and donates annually to many groups/organizations in the area, such as The Beaver Creek Adult Center, V.I.P.’S, ASCAP, Fire Department, and Sycamore Community Park.

In the past, LMWCC sponsors a Creative Writing Contest at Beaver Creek School for Grades 2 through 8.  Certificates and books were awarded to the students in each grade, who place First, Second, and Honorable Mention in each of the three categories, Poetry, Story and Essay.

LMWCC members have also actively helped with Beaver Creek School’s Breakfast Program.

Monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at the Ranch House in Lake Montezuma from September through May.  The business meetings begin at 11:15 a.m.  Lunch is served about noon, followed by an informative and entertaining speaker, sometimes, even a fashion show.  Announcements of our meetings are in the area newspapers and posted at the Lake Montezuma Square.  Everyone is invited and we hope you will attend.  It is a wonderful opportunity to get acquainted with many ladies in the community, to hear of the interest groups that meet in the area and to see the LMWCC in action!

LEST WE FORGET……… its all about the kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
